Message from Our Principal

Principal Christopherson

We are excited to be finishing up another great year and we are proud of all that our students have learned.

Summer is upon us-and with that comes what some call the "summer slide" in students' academic skills while out of school.  There are things that you as a parent can do to take charge and make learning a priority during the long hot days of summer.  Experts agree that children who continue learning during the summer gain reading, math, science and social studies skills that will prepare them for the new school year.

OYAMA STUDENTS CAN'T AFFORD TO SLIDE

Please plan to help your student this summer.  A neon yellow packet was sent home with them detailing summer 'rules'.  Our goal is to help students keep learning by doing minimal reading, writing, word work and math each day BEFORE THEY CAN USE ELECTRONICS!  Please place this packet and books in a place where you can see and help them fill out daily what they have done!

Every summer, the Pima County Public Libraries have an exciting summer reading program. Beginning May 19, stop by any library to pick up your Libraries Rock! reading tracker and a coupon for one free child admission to the Zoo! Students can get a free library card when a parent fills out an application and the libraries are full of fun books that every child is sure to love.

Keep learning in the summer and we will see you in August!
